Joaquin Niemann takes the lead at the Genesis; shatters tournament record

After grabbing the lead with an opening-round 8-under 63, Joaquin Niemann didn’t do much wrong and added another 63 to open up a 2-shot advantage midway through the second round. Not just that, his 126 total through two rounds shattered the 36-hole tournament record by 4 shots. Currently at 16 under, he’s 2 shots clear of rookie Cameron Young and Lanny Wadkins’ tournament records of 20 under and 264 total that have lasted nearly 30 years are in jeopardy. Justin Thomas, who finished late in the day, is solo third at 11 under after he shot 64 on Friday.
