Reigning Masters champion Hideki Matsuyama has withdrawn from the field at the 2022 Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass in Florida. The reason behind for withdrawing his name was a back injury, and he's to be replaced by former college standout Patrick Rodgers, who recently played at the Arnold Palmer Invitational. Matsuyama missed the cut last year in TPC Sawgrass but his opportunity will have to wait at the Players Championship. Matsuyama also joins Phil Mickelson as reigning major champions who're not in the Players, as Mickelson is currently involved in controversy and won't be engaging in any golf activity for an unspecified time.
