2-time Northern Trust winner Patrick Reed withdraws from the field

Patrick Reed won't be winning The Northern Trust for a 3rd time, as he withdrew his name from the field just before the tournament could begin. An ankle injury is the reason for him pulling out after also withdrawing from the recently concluded Wyndham Championship, which he also won as his 1st PGA Tour win. One possible setback would be derailing his chances at the US Ryder Cup team as his point standing is currently at #9. Despite that, Reed's chances at next weeks BMW Championship is safe and hopes to bounce back in that tournament.
